Toshiba Launches Sine-Wave Drive Controllers for Three-Phase BLDC Motors

Toshiba Electronics Europe has introduced two new sine-wave pulse width modulated (PWM) drive controllers, the TC78B043FNG and TC78B043FTG, designed for three-phase brushless DC (BLDC) motors. These controllers support both surface permanent magnet (SPM) and interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor types, providing reduced noise and enhanced control efficiency, addressing a growing demand in various applications, including home appliances and industrial equipment.

Improved Motor Control with Low Noise and High Efficiency

The new sine-wave controllers incorporate high-resolution sine-wave drive technology, which helps reduce vibration and noise during motor operation. These features are particularly valuable for IPM motors, which, despite offering low cost, high output, and high torque, are prone to generating unwanted noise and vibration.

The TC78B043FNG, which comes pre-programmed with common motor speed profiles, allows for quick deployment in motor control systems, reducing the need for manual configuration. Both controllers offer flexible speed settings that can be programmed through the built-in non-volatile memory (NVM), enabling efficient motor control by adjusting parameters like lead angle control.

Flexible Application for Home Appliances and Industrial Equipment

Typical applications for these motor controllers include home appliances such as air conditioners and air purifiers, as well as a wide range of industrial equipment. The ability to adjust motor control parameters via SPI ensures optimal performance across different motor types and operational conditions.

Wide Operating Range and Compact Design

The TC78B043FNG and TC78B043FTG operate within a voltage range of 6V to 23V and are designed to perform across a broad temperature range from -40°C to +115°C. Both devices integrate essential protection features, including thermal shutdown, under-voltage lockout, and current limiting, ensuring reliable operation in demanding environments.

The TC78B043FNG is housed in an HTSSOP28 package, while the TC78B043FTG is in a compact WQFN20 package, providing flexibility in system design and enabling miniaturization for space-constrained applications.
